Before/After

DIY Custom Framing

9/07/2010

I found a canvas oil painting with a cheap plastic chipped frame, but it was a good steal on clearance.  I purchased some stain grade pine 2x1 trim and door casing.

Put the 2x1 around the frame and attached the casing around the front mitering the corners. Measure, cut, stain, attach with liquid nails then finishing nails and fill in the nail holes with putty.  I prefer Gel Stain because it doesn’t drip or run and 'Wipe on Poly' to seal and protect the finish. As long as you are good with the miter saw this is a fairly easy project. The best advice I can offer for a good miter cut is PRACTICE, PRACTICE..and then practice some more. Get to know your saw and make sure it's properly calibrated if it's older.
